Yes you heard right, world’s fastest internet connection was installed recently in a home central Sweden. A 75 yeard old lady from Karlstad in Sweden was the first person to experience speeds of 40GBps on her PC.
But Sigbritt, who had never had a computer until now, is no ordinary 75 year old. She is the mother of Swedish internet legend Peter Löthberg who, along with Karlstad Stadsnät, the local council’s network arm, has arranged the connection.
The secret behind Sigbritt’s ultra-fast connection is a new modulation technique which allows data to be transferred directly between two routers up to 2,000 kilometres apart, with no intermediary transponders.
At these speeds she can download HD DVDs in just few seconds time. But even at this speeds, you can’t download that first because writing speeds of a normal hard drive are far lower than this. So maybe there are some big constraints which have to be overcome before such speeds become reality. Till then for a Indian like me, I will have to satisfy myself with 256Kbps connection at my home. I want this connection badly. 😉
