It’s not about the frequency, it’s all about the posts. Some blogs do not have posts often but I nevertheless like reading them via rss as they provide useful information.

A blog’s popularity is obviously related to post frequency. If the post frequency is too low, you may find very few regular visitors.
But having said that, quality of posts is also important. The best approach is to have a couple of posts per week which are of good quality.

The frequency of posts definitely effects the blogs popularity. It is because it not only attracts your loyal rss subscribers to come back and see what was posted but gives better position in search results with more threads.
There is no dispute regarding content is king.

Updating frequency is indeed very much important for a blogs popularity. For a number of reasons:
1) it keeps search engine spiders coming back to index the new content. Sites that are more frequently updated are also found to have higher SERPS
2) The obvious reason - it keeps visitors coming back to see what is new.
3) If you have an RSS feed (which all blogs should)..you’ll get listed on blog feed readers (when they update).

I think its more about the quality of the posts.
The search engines would come back but its more about the blog’s readers - those are who you want to be popular with.

Absolutely. Aftering neglecting to post for just 2 days, I lost a majority of my RSS subscribers. Posting daily and pinging the proper services is what can make or break a blog.

I broke my leg a few days ago and amazingly I stopped blogging although I am at home and with my computer all day long. I don’t need the leg to blog!
My experience is that when you stop blogging for a few days you have more visits, and you only start losing them if not blogging for more than a week. I always found this weird…

I certainly think that the frequency of fresh articles has a major effect on the blogs popularity and ranking. I have seen a new neat site that calls itself a search engine
Search machine. You should check it out.
